LEADERSHIP AND POLITICAL PROFILE
Rev. (Barr.) Ike Ezechukwu was born in Benin City on 5th June, 1960, married with children, a Legal Practitioner, Clergyman who has been an activist as the National Chairman of Association for Protection of Democracy (APD) since 1991, which he used to chase away the military from power and bring about the present Democratic dispensation. He was also a youth leader as the National Chairman, Nigeria Youth Orientation Movement (NYOM), with the aim to orientate our youth.
He was a founding member of Ideal peoples Party (IPP) as the Director of legal services, when the military lifted ban on politic; and made the party's constitution and manifesto that were submitted to NEC. When General Babangida formed two party system, he became a chieftain of National Republican Congress. He contested the office of the House of Representative primaries under NRC. He was the chairman in Kano State Gubernatorial primaries; and returning officer in Adamawa second run off primaries; and returning officer in Cross River State third run off primaries in 1991. And his panels returned Kabiru Gaya in Kano, Michika in Adamawa and Clement Ebri in Cross River, who won Gubernatorial elections against Social Democratic Party as the Governors of their various states; because he refused to take bribe (running into millions of Naira) to declare the losers, winners. When Abiola was denied his presidency, he sensed danger and made a written proposal of National Conference to Shonekan led Interim Government to resolve the issue of National question; which primarily is to return us to fiscal federalism. He learnt that the proposal was in the verge of being approved by the Interim Government before Abacha overthrow the government and instituted his own National Conference to enthroned himself as civilian president, before his demise.
When General Abacha dissolved democratic institutions in 1993, he joined hands with Dr. Tunji Braithwaite to fight against military dictatorship. When General Abdusallam established democracy, he joined Dr Tunji Braithwaite to formed Democratic Advance Movement (DAM) and was the National Secretary from 1999 to 2003. When Nigeria Advance Party (NAP) was formed, he became the National Deputy Chairman of NAP from 2003 to 2009. He was the chairman of Committee on system of Government in PRONACO that recommended Indigenous Parliamentary System of Government; because Presidential System is very costly. He was also in PRONACO constitution drafting committee that drafted a constitution for Nigeria, that the then civilian government refused to implement. He contested the office of Senate of Fed. Rep. of Nigeria (Anambra Central) in 2003. He was the NAP candidate for the office of Governor of Anambra State in the election of 6th Februray, 2010. When Dr Tunji Braithwaite passed on 28th March, 2016, he became the National Chairman of NAP.
I am very passionate about seeing the underprivileged boy child liberated from ignorance and societal bondage to become fulfilled in his God given purpose in life; to contribute positively towards the progress and development of the society.
